Aurangabad -The City of Gates

Aurangabad was named after Aurangzeb, the Mughal emperor. The city is the tourism capital of Maharashtra, thanks to the Ellora and Ajanta Caves and the Bibi Ka Maqbara, dedicated to Aurangzeb’s mother. These historical monuments are also UNESCO world heritage sites.

Transportation

Aurangabad has its own airport, the Chikkalthana Airport which has flights connecting to Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Mumbai and Pune. Aurangabad is situated in the Manmad-Secunderabad part of the South Central Railways Zone in the Indian Railways. The city enjoys railway connectivity to Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Amritsar, Nagpur, Nasik, Gwalior and Delhi. The Aurangabad Jan Shatabdi Express connects the city to Mumbai and is the fastest one.

Aurangabad enjoys good connectivity to different cities in Maharashtra. The National Highway 211 from Solapur to Dhule passes through Aurangabad.
