Locality highlights - Deonar

Chembur is a famous suburb in eastern Mumbai located 22 kilometres from the city centre. Chembur derives its name from the word ‘Chimboree’, which translates to ‘large crab’, in the Marathi language. The locality is surrounded by neighbouring suburbs of Deonar, Kurla, Govandi, Mahul, Ghatkopar, and Chunabhatti. The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is located about 20 kilometres from Chembur and it is well-connected to prime business districts of Bandra Kurla Complex, Andheri East, Navi Mumbai and Lower Panel.

Chembur houses different colonies like BPCL, Tilak Nagar, Pestom , Chedda Nagar, Tata Colony, HPCL, Shell Colony and Indian Oil Nagar on Mankhurd Link Road. It is a well-developed area of Mumbai and has a cosmopolitan population dominated by Sindhis, Maharashtrians and South Indians. Connectivity

Chembur is well-connected to other parts of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai via key arterial roads such as Eastern Highway and the Highway. To decongest traffic on suburban railway system, monorail, a new mode of transport in the city has been proposed.
